The Study by Lance Jones

Claude Opus 5 almost never wavered. Twice, it stood alone.

Across 4,000 responses, Claude gave the same answer in all 200 runs for seventeen of the twenty dilemmas. The Doctor and The Lifeboat set it apart from the other three Frontier Four models.

Claude rejected the larger promised payoff twice.

In both cases, the other three models accepted a certain loss now for the chance of a larger payoff. Claude wouldn't make that trade.

Claude rarely hovered near the middle.

Nineteen of its twenty choices landed at least 95% on one side.

Claude was certain. It thought people would hesitate.

Claude was more decisive about its own answers than it expected humans to be on every dilemma. On these four, it expected most humans to choose the opposite option.

Reasoning changed Claude's confidence, not its conclusions.

I ran the same dilemmas again, this time asking Claude to reason through its answer. Its confidence shifted on four dilemmas, but it never changed which side won.
